Russia's parliament on Thursday approved a bill that would criminalize unregistered cryptocurrency services and impose penalties of up to five years in prison on people who operate them illegally.
The bill, which was approved by a vote of 411 to 4, also aims to criminalize advertising and promotion of unregulated cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin, on the social media platforms that are popular in Russia.
